World Mental Health Day

Hello everyone! Sheena here with my weekly blog.

October is already shaping up to be a very busy month!

Here at the Partnership, as well as managing our day-to-day business we’re embracing the work to finalise our transition to statutory ICS status by April 2022.

We’re working closely with our CCG colleagues and other key partners, so that together, we can ensure the safe close-down of existing CCGs and effectively build the structure for the new Integrated Care Board.

It is difficult and complex work but at the same time, it is a unique opportunity to create something new, different, and fit for the purpose of really tackling health inequalities and ensuring that we improve the lives of the poorest fastest.

That is our job, and we are doing this with a clear understanding of our objectives and a determination to put people at the very heart of our plans and ambitions. I’ve been humbled by the commitment and enthusiasm from all my colleagues to get this right.

Sunday 10th October is World Mental Health Day – a fantastic opportunity to focus on mental health needs and recognise the varying provision and unequal access to resources across the globe.

You’ll be aware that my substantive role is as CEO of Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Trust, a mental health, learning disability and community care provider – so it will be no surprise to you that good mental health and wellbeing – for everyone – is very close to my heart.

While World Mental Health Day highlights global issues, it also provides an opportunity for us to look closer to home and keep mental health and wellbeing in the spotlight. This has been an incredibly difficult 20 months or so and we have all endured changes to our lives that we never imagined.

There is no doubt that many people have been negatively affected by the Covid pandemic and its consequences, not least the amazing health and care workforce, as well as people who already had mental health conditions that may have deteriorated, and the wider population.

Whilst it is no secret that all health and care services are facing unprecedented levels of demand, readers should be assured that there is a lot of support available which I’d encourage you to access it if you need it. Remember, it is ok not be ok, and simply reaching out and talking to someone could save a life. I’ve included some useful links below:

The Covid vaccination programme – the biggest and most successful vaccination programme in history – continues with many people now being eligible for their booster jabs. More than 10 million vaccinations have now been given across the North West and almost 4 million of these are here in Cheshire and Merseyside.

Vaccination is our most effective defence against Covid, and I’d strongly urge everyone to get jabbed. If you haven’t yet taken up the invitation, why not? Infection rates remain high and hospitalisation and sadly death, are almost exclusively among the unvaccinated. Please be assured it is safe. Protect your friends, families and loved ones. Let’s get vaccinated!

Finally thought for this week is about Flu. With the Flu season now firmly upon us, it is vital that we also all take up the offer of our Flu jab when it is available.
